Every year, millions of pounds of clothing and textiles end up in U.S. landfills — items that could easily be reused or recycled.
In today’s “throwaway” culture, almost-new clothing is discarded without a second thought. Clothing For Cause exists to change that — offering a simple, convenient, and responsible way for people to give their clothing a second life instead of letting it go to waste.
By donating and reusing clothing, we conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The production of new textiles requires vast amounts of energy, water, and raw materials — so every piece of clothing saved makes a meaningful difference for our planet.

Conserving Resources
Producing new textiles is one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world. Since 1980, U.S. textile consumption has increased fivefold — with the average person purchasing over 81 pounds of textiles each year. Of that, only about 10 pounds are reused or recycled.
By donating through Clothing For Cause, every item collected helps reduce waste and preserve the energy and raw materials needed to make new clothing.

Curbing Water Pollution
It takes 1,300 gallons of water to grow enough cotton for a single T-shirt.
Conventional cotton farming and textile dyeing are major contributors to global water pollution — responsible for nearly 20% of industrial wastewater worldwide. By keeping clothing in circulation longer, we help reduce the demand for new cotton production and the toxic dyes that threaten freshwater ecosystems.

Reducing Air Pollution
For every pound of clothing that is reused instead of newly manufactured, seven pounds of greenhouse gases are prevented from entering the atmosphere.
The textile industry releases harmful emissions like carbon dioxide, sulfur, and chlorine — which contribute to smog, respiratory problems, and climate change. Through reuse, we help clear the air — literally.
